Located in the far eastern part of the region lies the extraordinary Vashlovani National Park, whose landscapes, sculpted by the elements, evoke the American West. Its small mud volcanoes are a fascinating attraction for travelers willing to venture deep into the park’s remote and untamed wilderness. The area is particularly rich in wildlife, home to bears, wolves, wild boars and the rare goitered gazelle.

In the western part of the region, on the foothills of the Greater Caucasus, lives an ancient Muslim Chechen community known as the Kists. Exceptionally welcoming, they have preserved an ancestral culture that remains remarkably intact, including the hauntingly beautiful Sufi songs traditionally performed by women.
